Start of Trip

April 27, 2011. Leaving Detroit on Southwest Airlines and flying to Baltimore to pick up Kelly's boyfriend James. As soon as we take off the turbulence is bad. The pilot says the flight attendants will have to stay seated for the first half hour of the trip. I've flown many, many, many times and this is the 3rd worse flight I've had for turbulence. Kelly called before I left Detroit and said a tornado was heading towards Mississippi State and that she was taking her two dogs to school for cover. She has a two hour drive to pick us up in Birmingham, AL so told her to stay until safe to leave.

Can't find James at the Baltimore airport and can't get a hold of Kelly.
I was talking to a woman who was going to Dallas and her flight has been delayed by two hours. Hope we don't have that long. We are in line for boarding and still no James. I recognize a young man from my Detroit flight and he tells me that he is going home to Tuscaloosa. I wish him well and wait for James Just as we start to board he arrives. Traffic from
Washington DC was bad. We are boarded and ready to leave when the pilot tells us there is a tornado warning for the next county so we can't leave. They tell us we can get off to eat but be back in an hour. James was talking to a man going to Birmingham and he sat next to us on the plane and went to dinner with us. He was going to the Lebanese Church in Tuscaloosa for a Festival.

While we are eating dinner the TV is showing the tornado that went through Smithville, MS. It is an Ef5 tornado and I know that is one of the deadliest
